MBA Statement on FHA’s Annual Report to Congress

MBA’s President and CEO Bob Broeksmit, CMB, issued the following statement regarding the Federal Housing Administration's release of its annual report to Congress:

Mortgage Credit Availability Increased in October, MBA Reports

Mortgage credit availability increased in October according to the Mortgage Credit Availability Index, a report from the Mortgage Bankers Association that analyzes data from ICE Mortgage Technology.

Optimal Blue’s October Market Advantage report found strong purchase mortgage growth, though a shift away from conforming loans signals strained affordability.

After a slow start to this year, borrowing and lending backed by commercial real estate properties picked up during the third quarter. Originations increased 59 percent compared to a year ago and increased 44 percent from the second quarter of 2024.

Fannie Mae Finds Most Consumers Support Building New Housing; Disagree on Details

Far more consumers say affordable housing is harder to find than a few years ago, but more than half believe house prices, rent and local taxes will increase if more homes are built in their neighborhood, a recent Fannie Mae survey found.

MBA: IMB Production Profits Increase in Third Quarter

Independent mortgage banks and mortgage subsidiaries of chartered banks reported a pre-tax net profit of $701 on each loan they originated in the third quarter, an increase from the reported net profit of $693 per loan in the second quarter, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s new Quarterly Mortgage Bankers Performance Report.
