The Week Ahead, Nov. 14, 2022: Countdown to the Holidays, But First…

Good morning, and happy Monday! We hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend.

We’re in that weird week betwixt Veterans Day and the Thanksgiving holidays. And not surprisingly, there’s a lot going on, so let’s get started:

First MBA Reports, The Mortgage Bankers Association is busy this week, with four (count ‘em, four) reports this week:

Tuesday, Nov. 15: MBA monthly Mortgage Credit Availability Index, with commentary and analysis from MBA Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist Joel Kan.

Wednesday, Nov. 16: MBA Weekly Applications Survey, with commentary and analysis from Kan.

Thursday, Nov. 17: MBA monthly Builder Applications Survey, with Kan again providing insight.

Friday, Nov. 18: MBA quarterly Mortgage Bankers Performance Report, with commentary and analysis from MBA Vice President of Industry Analysis Marina Walsh.

Third, Congress. The mid-terms are over—sort of; and the 2024 elections are unofficially underway. We won’t know fully who controls the House and Senate for possibly a few more weeks, with a runoff election in Georgia in early December likely to determine control of the Senate.

The Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing this Tuesday, Nov. 15, on Oversight of Financial Regulators: A Strong Banking and Credit Union System for Main Street

It begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in Dirksen Senate Office Building 538 and can be accessed online here.

The House Financial Services Committee has no hearings scheduled this week.
