MBA Awards More Than $156,000 in Path to Diversity Scholarships

The Mortgage Bankers Association awarded $156,463 in scholarships to 179 industry professionals–including women and those from traditionally and historically marginalized and under-represented groups–under its Path to Diversity (P2D) Scholarship Program during the 2023 fiscal year ending Sept. 30. The scholarships were given to industry professionals from MBA member companies seeking to advance their careers through MBA Education programs, courses, and select conferences.

“MBA is committed to empowering industry professionals’ career growth through continued education, and the Path to Diversity Scholarship program builds a foundation for increased opportunity and success,” said Amber Lawrence, MBA’s Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. “Investing in diversity within the real estate finance industry opens doors, breaks barriers, and fosters inclusion for under-represented professionals.”

MBA’s Research Institute for Housing America (RIHA) is one of the leading donors of P2D scholarships. In recent years, MBA has also received donations from CBRE, Quicken Loans, CMG Financial, U.S. Mortgage Insurers, VantageScore Solutions, Ballard Spahr LLP, Cultural Outreach Solutions, and the Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) Philanthropy and Community Engagement Committee.

P2D scholarship recipients receive a voucher to cover registration fees, up to $2,000, for MBA Education programs, courses, and select MBA events. Applicants can apply for the scholarship up to three times during their career, representing a potential value of up to $6,000. To be eligible for a P2D scholarship, individuals must be currently employed by an MBA member firm or state MBA member firm and have at least two years of experience in the mortgage industry or some equivalent in real estate finance experience or training. Industry professionals from all backgrounds are welcome to apply, and those belonging to traditionally and historically under-represented groups are encouraged to identify as such on their application.
