The Week Ahead, Oct. 3, 2022: 5 Things to Know

Good morning, happy Monday and happy October! Here’s what you need to know this week:

First, MBA Annual22. The MBA Annual Convention & Expo—the biggest real estate finance industry event of the year—is just three weeks away, taking place Oct. 23-26 at the Music City Center in Nashville.

Academy Award-winning actress, singer and dancer Rita Moreno; former House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.; and legendary basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski will deliver keynote remarks. And Concert MBA this year features Darius Rucker.

Second, MBA Reports. The MBA Commercial Real Estate Finance Forecast is out as of this morning (see today’s NewsLink) with commentary and analysis from MBA Vice President of Commercial/Multifamily Research and Economics Jamie Woodwell.

The MBA Weekly Applications Survey comes out on Wednesday, Oct. 5, with commentary and analysis from MBA Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting Joel Kan.

Third, Other Economic Reports. The first week of the month means one thing: jobs reports. This week sees four major barometers of employment including the Job Openings and Labor Turnover (JOLTS) Survey (Tuesday); the ADP National Employment Report (Wednesday); Initial Claims (Thursday); and the monthly Employment Situation report (Friday).

MBA NewsLink will provide coverage of all four reports this week, with commentary and analysis from MBA Chief Economist Mike Fratantoni on the Friday employment report.

Here is this week’s economic/housing report schedule; those that MBA NewsLink will cover are in italics:

Monday: MBA CREF Forecast; Construction; ISM Manufacturing Index

Tuesday: CoreLogic Home Price Index; JOLTS; Manufacturing, Shipments and Orders

Wednesday: MBA Weekly Applications Survey; ADP National Employment Report; Trade Balance; ISM Non-Manufacturing Index

Thursday: Initial Claims

Friday: Employment Situation; Wholesale Trade

Fourth, Congress. The House is in recess until after Election Day (Nov. 4), although it could be called back into session for special votes.

The Senate is also out this week, but is scheduled to return after Columbus Day (Oct. 12). But with elections less than a month away, 34 seats in play and most legislative priorities set aside until after the elections, don’t expect much this month.
