The Week Ahead, Nov. 7, 2022: Election Day and a Whole Lotta Other Stuff

Good morning, and happy Monday! We’ve got a lot to cover and just enough bandwidth, so let’s get started:

First, Election Day, this Tuesday, Nov. 8. All 435 House seats; 34 Senate seats; and nearly two dozen governorships are up for vote; at the federal level, control of the House and Senate hang in the balance. Please vote!

Second, Veteran’s Day, this Friday, Nov. 11. Mortgage Bankers Association offices will be closed on Friday as we honor those who have served our nation, past and present. MBA NewsLink will not publish. On behalf of MBA officers and staff, have a safe holiday.

Third, the MBA Accounting & Financial Management Conference, which starts Tuesday, Nov. 8 and runs through Thursday, Nov. 10 at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge. For information, click here.

Fourth, mPact 2022: Cook Like a Pro with Chef Joe Sasto Benefiting the MBA Opens Doors Foundation Nov. 10. Each fall, mPact, MBA’s network for young professionals, embarks on a campaign of giving back to families in our communities. This fundraising event is the first of four that will benefit the MBA Opens Doors Foundation, which provides mortgage and rental grants to families with critically ill or injured children.

Cook like a Pro” is designed to allow “chefs” of all levels to prepare a tasty meal of Crispy Ricotta Gnocchi and Sage Brown Butter in real-time with Chef Joe. This lesson is for all skill levels and does not require any special equipment. Click here to see the full list of ingredients.

The event takes placeThursday, Nov. 10, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. ET. To attend the event, donate $30 or more. Click here for more information. Questions? Contact Jacky Salazar at jsalazar@mba.org.

Fifth, MBA Reports. This week, MBA will issue its updated Commercial/Multifamily Economic Forecast.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, MBA will issue its Weekly Applications Survey, with commentary and analysis from MBA Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist Joel Kan.

And on Thursday, Nov. 10, MBA has tentatively scheduled release of its monthly Mortgage Credit Availability Index, with Kan again providing commentary and analysis.

Sixth, Other Economic Reports. With Veteran’s Day shortening the workweek, it’s a fairly quiet period for report, with only the Initial Claims report (Thursday) and Consumer Price Index—a key indicator of inflation (Thursday)—of interest. MBA NewsLink will provide coverage of both reports.

Seventh, Congress. As of Tuesday, this session of Congress moves to lame-duck status. We could know by late Tuesday whether or not Republicans gain control of the House and Senate—or not, as some key races are expected to take weeks to sort out. Stay tuned.

There are no hearings schedule this week by either the Senate Banking Committee or the House Financial Services Commmittee.
