The Week Ahead, June 6, 2022: The MISMO Spring Summit and 4 Other Things to Know
Good morning and happy Monday! We mark the start of another week—and remember the sacrifices of June 6, 1944. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening this week:
First, The MISMO Spring Summit is underway in Charleston, S.C., running through Thursday, June 9.
MISMO plays an essential role as the central point for collaboration between lenders, servicers, regulators, GSEs and technology providers, enabling the industry to achieve a more seamless and productive digital future. For more information, click here.
Looking ahead, the MBA spring conference series concludes this month with the MBA Chairman’s Conference, June 12-15 in Carlsbad, Calif. (for more information, click here); theMBA CREF Market Intelligence Symposium, June 15-16 online (for more information, click here); and theMBA Single-Family Research & Economics Showcase, June 22-23 online (for more information, click here).
Second, MBA Reports. The Mortgage Bankers Association releases its Weekly Applications Survey this Wednesday, June 8, with commentary and analysis from MBA Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting Joel Kan.
And on Thursday, June 9, MBA releases its monthly Mortgage Credit Availability Index, the only standardized quantitative index solely focused on mortgage credit. MBA’s Joel Kan will provide commentary and analysis on this report as well.
Third, Other Economic Reports. The Federal Open Market Committee doesn’t meet until the following week (June 14-15)—and it has already signaled without a lot of subtlety that another substantial hike in the federal funds rate (at least 50 basis points) is on the docket. Thus, look for a lot of punditry and prognostication this week.
Here are this week’s other economic reports; those that MBA NewsLink will cover are in italics:
Tuesday: CoreLogic Home Price Index; Trade Balance
Wednesday: MBA Weekly Applications Survey; Wholesale Trade
Thursday: Initial Claims;
Friday: Consumer Price Index; University of Michigan Consumer Survey (preliminary)
Fourth, Congress. The House and Senate are back this week following the Memorial Day recess; the major focus this week will be if—and how quickly—Democrats and Republicans can agree on meaningful gun control legislation.
Neither the Senate Banking Committee nor the House Financial Services Committee have hearing scheduled this week.
For more information about the House and Senate, visit www.house.gov and www.senate.gov, respectively.
