The Week Ahead, June 13, 2022: The Fed Meets; MBA Spring Meetings Conclude; and 5 Other Things to Know

Good morning and happy Monday! We mark the start of another busy week. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening:

First, The Federal Reserve. The Federal Open Market Committee meets here in Washington this Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15 for its regularly scheduled policy meeting.

The FOMC has long-telegraphed its intent for this meeting: consensus is the Committee will raise the federal funds rate by another 50 basis points, to 1.25-1.50 percent. The Committee is also expected to provide more details of how it intends to wind down its purchases of U.S. Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities.

MBA NewsLink will provide coverage of the FOMC actions in its Thursday, June 16 edition, with commentary and analysis from MBA Chief Economist Mike Fratantoni.

Second, MBA Spring Meetings. The MBA Chairman’s Conference is currently underway, running June 12-15 in Carlsbad, Calif. (for more information, click here).

Also this week, theMBA CREF Market Intelligence Symposium takes place this Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16 online (for more information, click here). Next week, theMBA Single-Family Research & Economics Showcase takes place June 22-23 online (for more information, click here).

Third, Juneteenth. The newest federal holiday, Juneteenth, will be observed next Monday, June 20. MBA offices will be closed that day; MBA NewsLink will not publish. On behalf of MBA officers and staff, have a safe and happy holiday.

Fourth, MBA Reports. MBA releases its Weekly Applications Survey this Wednesday, June 8, with commentary and analysis from MBA Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting Joel Kan.

And on Thursday, June 16, MBA releases its monthly Builder Applications Survey, with Kan will provide commentary and analysis on this report as well.

Sixth, Congress. Following last week’s dramatic prime-time hearing of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6attack on the U.S. Capitol, this week will feel relatively quiet. However, the House and Senate are in session this week.

The House Financial Services Committee holds a mark-up session this Tuesday, June 14 to consider a number of bills. The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in 2128 Rayburn House Office Building and can be accessed online here.

The Senate Banking Committee Holds a hearing on Tuesday, June 14 on Considering the Index Fund Voting Process. The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in Dirksen Senate Office Building room 538 and can be accessed online here.
