The Week Ahead, Feb. 28, 2022: 4 Things to Know

Good morning and happy Monday! Here’s what’s happening in the real estate finance world this week:

First, Jerome Powell. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell visits Capitol Hill this month to deliver the Fed’s Semi-Annual Monetary Policy Report to Congress.

Powell will appear before the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday, Mar. 2. The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in 2128 Rayburn House Office Building and can be accessed online here.

On Thursday, Mar. 3, Powell travels to the other side of the Capitol to appear before the Senate Banking Committee. The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in Dirksen Senate Office Building Room 538 and can be accessed online here.

Second, MBA. On Wednesday, MBA releases its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey, with commentary and analysis from MBA Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting Joel Kan.

Third, Economic Reports. The first week of the month means one thing: jobs reports. Three of the four major reports take place this week: The ADP National Employment Report (Wednesday); Initial Claims (Thursday); and the February Employment Situation (Friday.) For the latter, MBA Chief Economist Mike Fratantoni will provide commentary and analysis in the Monday, Mar. 7 edition of MBA NewsLink.
