The Week Ahead—Feb. 16, 2021

Good morning! Welcome to another extraordinary week in The Nation’s Capital.

Washington, D.C. has been through another wringer—including an historic second impeachment trial (and second acquittal) of former President Donald Trump. In the aftermath, reports document meetings led by past Republican Party leaders to form a new political party, while Democrats explore legislative remedies to prevent Trump from holding public office again.

And it’s only February.

As Capitol Hill tries to regain some sense of normalcy, House and Senate committees begin their work in earnest this week. The Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing this Thursday, Feb. 18 on The Coronavirus Crisis: Paving the Way to An Equitable Recovery. The remote hearing begins at 11:00 a.m. ET and can be accessed online herettps://www.banking.senate.gov/hearings/the-coronavirus-crisis-paving-the-way-to-an-equitable-recovery.

The House Financial Services Committee gets into the swing of things as well—and jumps into the recent GameStop controversy with a hearing on Thursday, Feb. 18. The virtual hearing, Game Stopped? Who Wins and Loses When Short Sellers, Social Media and Retail Investors Collide, begins at noon ET and can be accessed online here.
