The Week Ahead
The past four years have been anything but “normal” in Washington, D.C.–if there’s even such a thing as “normal.” But with an impending impeachment trial hanging over the Senate, things could get even weirder.
And as Hunter S. Thompson once said, “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.”
The Senate schedule is relatively clear, just in case the trial begins this week. On the House side, the schedule is sparse as well; nonetheless, the House Financial Services Committee holding two hearings of interest.
On Tuesday, Jan. 14, the Financial Services Committee holds a hearing on On the Brink of Homelessness: How the Affordable Housing Crisis and the Gentrification of America Is Leaving Families Vulnerable.
Slated to testify: Karen Chapple, Professor and Chair of the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkley; Matthew Desmond, Maurice P. During Professor of Sociology & Director of the Eviction Lab at Princeton University; Priya Jayachandran, President of the National Housing Trust; and Jeffrey Williams, Tenant Advocate
The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in room 2128 Rayburn House Office Building. And can be accessed online at https://financialservices.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=406019.
Also on Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions holds a hearing on The Community Reinvestment Act: Reviewing Who Wins and Who Loses with Comptroller Ottings Proposal.
Scheduled witnesses include Gerron Levi, Director of Policy & Government Affairs with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition; Eric Rodriguez, Senior Vice President of Policy and Advocacy with UnidosUS; Paulina Gonzalez-Brito, Executive Director of the California Reinvestment Coalition Institute; Hope Knight, President & CEO of the Greater Jamaica Development Corp.; and Faith Bautista, President & CEO of the National Diversity Coalition.
