The Week Ahead—Dec. 21, 2020

Good morning and happy Monday! Hang in there—we’re almost through 2020!

With Christmas—and the Christmas holiday break—just days away, the situation in Washington is, as usual, as chaotic as it could be. As of this writing, House and Senate negotiators are STILL working on a substantial $900 billion-plus coronavirus relief bill, which is keeping the 116th Congress from formally adjourning. And there’s still the defense appropriations bill, which triggered the threat of a Trump veto–and the possibility of yet another government shutdown.

Meanwhile, this is a very busy week for the Mortgage Bankers Association. Heads up—here’s what’s going on for the remainder of the year:

MBA releases its Weekly Forbearance and Call Volume Survey (Monday, 4:00 p.m. ET); and its Weekly Applications Survey this Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 7:00 a.m. ET.

Please note that the Weekly Applications Survey will not be released during the holiday week (Wednesday, Dec. 30); instead, MBA will provide a survey on Wednesday, Jan. 6 that combines the results of the weeks ending Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. And the MBA Forbearance & Call Volume Survey will not publish on Monday, Dec. 28; it will be combined with latter results in a survey released on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

MBA offices will close on Thursday, Dec. 24 at 1:00 p.m. ET and remain closed through the holidays. MBA offices will reopen on Monday, Jan. 4.

Here’s the NewsLink publications schedule: MBA NewsLink and MBA Commercial/Multifamily NewsLink will publish on Thursday, Dec. 24; NewsLink then goes dark until Monday, Jan. 4. MBA Servicing NewsLink’s final issue of 2020 will be this Tuesday, Dec. 22; it will resume publishing on Tuesday, Jan. 5. MBA Commercial/Multifamily NewsLink will return on Thursday, Jan. 7.

On behalf of MBA officers and staff, have a safe, healthy and happy holiday season.
