MBA Education School of Multifamily Mortgage Banking Goes Virtual

MBA Education recently moved its popular School of Multifamily Mortgage Banking online.

The first instructor-guided online School of Multifamily Mortgage Banking wrapped up this week, said MBA Director of Commercial/Multifamily Education Content Gail Griffith.

“We approached the conversion of the classroom course to a virtual setting with the same goal in mind–keep the course as interactive and engaging as possible and allow participants to network through assigned group activities,” Griffith said. “Along with numerous chat and poll questions interspersed throughout the training, the participants are able to break out into their assigned groups through sub-conferencing to work on the various case studies and calculation activities.”

Griffith noted that all these activities provoke thought and dialogue between the participants and the instructors and reinforce the topics being discussed. “With the first session now behind us, I was thrilled to see the virtual setting run as smoothly as the classroom setting with the same level of engagement by the participants,” she said.

Pacific Southwest Realty Services President and CEO Daniel Phelan, CMB, CRI, CCMS serves as curriculum contributor and lead instructor for the MBA Education School of Multifamily Mortgage Banking. He said the course provides a “comprehensive learning experience” regarding all aspects of the multifamily lending process. “For individuals with limited experience in one focus area of the industry, this course provides perspective of how their focus area fits into the overall process,” he said.

Phelan said the main takeaways from the online course include an understanding of the various lending platforms and loan programs and a comparative summary of how the securitization process works for each option. “Second, [the virtual School of Multifamily Mortgage Banking] provides clarification of how to assess risk (physical, environmental, operational, borrower and value) when multifamily is used as collateral for a mortgage loan,” he said. “And third, it gives hands-on practice evaluating and matching prospective loan requests to an appropriate lending platform and loan program through the use of sample case studies.”

The virtual School of Multifamily Mortgage Banking is perfect for someone withlimited experience in one area, someone unfamiliar with how the overall lending process works or how their role fits into the overall industry. “This course provides you with a thorough understanding of the multifamily lending cycle, key players and products in the multifamily mortgage marketplace and the critical role of capital markets and securitization,” Phelan said. “This is also an excellent opportunity to virtually network with your peers when the classroom course is not available.”

The course is most appropriate for people at the foundational level and contains the following elements:

– Live Virtual Sessions/Calls

– Live Polling

– Final Exam
