CREF Corner Office Conversation with PSRS’s Michael Tanner

The Mortgage Bankers Association released an interview with PSRS Executive Vice President Michael Tanner.

Tanner shared his perspective on the interest rate environment and how his company is focused on growing by serving today’s customers with shorter-term transitional situations and construction projects. Tanner serves on MBA’s Commercial/Multifamily Board of Governors and chairs MBA’s Origination Council.

“Many of our clients were really concerned about rising rates over the last handful of years and made preparations for that and the rates never really rose on them,” Tanner said. “So it’s a little bit of ‘boy cried wolf’ or borrowers have already refinanced with long term low rates to take care of it.”

Discussing the value of being involved with MBA’s Commercial/Multifamily Board of Governors, “one of the biggest advantages of being on COMBOG is access to information, learning what other people are doing, understanding the issues that we have in Washington, D.C. and the legislation that impacts our business,” Tanner said. He noted improved business efficiencies through identification and awareness of best practices as well as developing profitable business relationships.

PSRS is a regional mortgage banker founded in 1972 based in the southwest with four offices helping to originate loans across the country, most notably for its life insurance company correspondent lenders.
