MBANow: Fowler Williams, CMB

MBANowThe Mortgage Bankers Association released a new MBANow video featuring Fowler Williams, CMB, President and CEO of Crescent Mortgage Co., Atlanta, on the benefits of MBA membership, the power of the CMB designation and the impact of MBA’s recent advocacy wins.

The video can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO_hrZVyFmg&feature=em-uploademail.

“There’s a million moving parts in this business and it’s hard to keep track of them,” Williams said. “MBA does a good job of making that information readily available to us and allowing us to participate in the process.”

Williams said the CMB designation, which he got early in his career, has allowed him to stand out from his peers. “The CMB process brought to me a more holistic knowledge of the industry as opposed to a siloed, ‘this is what I do day-to-day,'” he said.

Williams said recent advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill, including shaping passage of S. 2155, the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act, has helped his business. “MBA has helped a lot in looking for clarity [and] not using enforcement actions to define that clarity,” he said. “MBA has helped us regardless of whether you are a large lender, a small lender, a community bank lender. a credit union or an [independent mortgage bank]. It’s been a very good avenue to affect policy in sort of a charter-neutral, channel-neutral way.”
