The Week Ahead—Jan. 25, 2021

Good morning! Welcome to the first full week of business for the Biden Administration.

But first: The Mortgage Bankers Association’s Commercial Real Estate Finance/Multifamily Convention & Expo and Commercial/Multifamily Servicing and Technology Conference is little more than a week away, taking place as a virtual event on Feb. 3-4.

Conference keynote speakers include former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young and retired Navy Admiral William McRaven. Grandbridge Real Estate Capital Chairman & CEO and MBA 2021 Vice-Chair Matt Rocco will interview Freddie Mac Executive Vice President and Head of Multifamily Business Deborah Jenkins.

MBA releases its weekly Forbearance and Call Volume Survey today (Jan. 25) at 4:00 p.m. ET.; On Wed. Jan. 27, MBA releases its Weekly Applications Survey.

Back in Washington, President Biden’s nominee for HUD Secretary, Marcia Fudge, appears before the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday, Jan. 28. Also appearing before the Committee is Cecilia Rouse, nominated as Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors. A vote is expected shortly after.

The remote hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET and can be accessed online here.

The House Financial Services Committee is expected to convene soon. On Jan. 21, Committee Chair Maxine Waters, D-Calif., announced Democratic Party members of the committee. The Committee’s Ranking Member, Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., recently confirmed membership of the Committee’s Republicans.

The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee meets on Wednesday, Jan. 27 to hear from and consider Denis McDonough’s nomination as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The hearing begins at 3:00 p.m. ET in Dirksen Senate Office Building room 106 and can be accessed online here.
