MBA Sends Letter to Senate Leaders in Support of Brian Johnson’s CFPB Nomination

The Mortgage Bankers Association sent a letter to leaders in the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, stating the real estate finance industry’s strong support for President Trump’s nomination of Brian Johnson to be director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“Mr. Johnson’s extensive background prepares him well for this significant role. This includes his years of experience working at the Bureau as the Deputy Director, his private sector involvement and law practice, and his service as the policy director and chief financial institutions counsel for the House Committee on Financial Services,” the letter stated. “Mr. Johnson possesses a deep understanding of consumer protection law, the financial services sector, and our nation’s mortgage markets, positioning him well to provide the strong leadership needed to ensure the CFPB fulfills its mission.”

“Should he be confirmed, MBA looks forward to working with Mr. Johnson on modernizing mortgage regulations, supporting housing affordability, advancing sustainable homeownership and empowering community lending – all under the aegis of protecting consumer,” it continued.
