MBANow: MBA President & CEO David Stevens on Need for Housing Policy Director
In the latest MBANow video, MBA President and CEO David Stevens, CMB, discusses the need for the next Administration to create a new position, U.S. Housing Policy Director.
“We are facing a very significant housing affordability crisis,” Stevens said. “This has to be solved in the next Administration.”
Stevens, a former FHA administrator, wrote a recent op-ed in The Hill (http://bit.ly/2bSYAnF), outlining the duties of such a director and calling for its creation at the White House level.
“The next administration needs to change the dialogue on housing,” Stevens said, noting a housing policy director could cut through regulatory red tape and coordinate a comprehensive housing policy.
“Housing is one-fifth of the gross domestic product in this country,” Stevens said. “It should be one of the top five economic platforms of any President’s agenda.”
