On Thursday Congress passed, and the president signed into law, another short-term continuing resolution to fund the government until December 20. On Tuesday, the Federal Housing Finance Agency announced plans to repropose the agency’s rule on capital requirements for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2020. And this Sunday, November 24, the mortgage loan originator temporary authority law will go into effect.

HUD released its annual report detailing the financial condition of the FHA Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund. And this past Tuesday, the FHFA published its semi-annual CRT Progress Report outlining the current state of the GSEs’ credit risk transfer programs, which reduce the GSEs’–and ultimately taxpayers’–exposure to mortgage credit risk.

Last Friday, MBA President and CEO Bob Broeksmit, CMB, attended a White House meeting chaired by HUD Secretary Ben Carson and attended by other senior administration officials and key industry stakeholders to discuss housing affordability. And on Monday, the Federal Housing Finance Agency announced it is seeking comment on pooling practices for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the Uniform Mortgage-Backed Securities market.

A Review of the Trump Administration’s Plans to Change Housing Finance in America, with testimony provided by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, HUD Secretary Ben Carson and FHFA Director Mark Calabria.

This past Monday, President Trump announced that he intends to nominate Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Commissioner Brian Montgomery to be the next Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Also, President Trump signed two Executive Orders on regulatory guidance issued by federal agencies. And the Treasury Department issued proposed rules to help ease the transition from the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) to other reference rates.
