MBA Chart of the Week: Monthly Payroll Growth and Unemployment Rate

The job market definitively slowed in July. Nonfarm payroll growth at 114,000 was well below the 12-month average of 215,000, while the unemployment rate moved up to its highest level since October 2021 at 4.3%, as shown in this week’s chart.

Mortgage Credit Availability Increased in June

Mortgage credit availability increased in June according to the Mortgage Credit Availability Index, a report from the Mortgage Bankers Association that analyzes data from ICE Mortgage Technology.

MBA: Mortgage Applications Increase in Latest Weekly Survey

Mortgage applications increased 0.8% from one week earlier, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Weekly Applications Survey for the week ending June 21, 2024. This week’s results include an adjustment for the Juneteenth holiday.

MBA: May New Home Purchase Mortgage Applications Increased 13.8%

The Mortgage Bankers Association Builder Application Survey data for May 2024 shows mortgage applications for new home purchases increased 13.8% compared to a year ago. Compared to April 2024, applications increased by 1%.
