—Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Tammy Hughes. I am the Assistant Vice President of Mortgage Production at Union Square Credit Union based in North Texas. I hold a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from Midwestern State University and have more than five years of experience in the mortgage industry. Prior to transitioning into mortgage lending, I spent the majority of my career as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) consultant.
I am a co-author of Hardball for Women, a business book available on Amazon.
—How did you learn about the MBA Path to Opportunity Scholarship? Beyond its financial appeal, what else inspired you to apply? Did a co-worker/supervisor/mentor encourage your application?
My leader and mentor–Scott Flinn, CMB–encouraged me to explore getting my AMP designation to help increase my industry knowledge.
—Did you find the application process to be user-friendly?
The application process was very easy to navigate through and prepare.
—How has the Path to Opportunity Scholarship benefited you, professionally and/or personally?
Receiving the scholarship(s) allowed me to pursue my Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) certification sooner than I otherwise could have. The scholarship funding accelerated my trek to invest in my professional development.
The experience gained through all three AMP courses was invaluable, significantly expanding my scope of the mortgage industry and strengthening my ability to better serve borrowers. Equally valuable, the program connected me with a network of talented professionals from across the country. Those relationships have become a valuable resource, providing opportunities to exchange ideas, process challenges, and collaborate with my peers in another organization.
The scholarship not only supported my education but also helped me build professional connections that will benefit my career long into the future.
—Any advice for someone else who is considering applying for a Path to Opportunity scholarship?
Go for it! There’s really no good reason not to throw your hat in the ring. The application process is well worth the effort, and the potential benefits can be significant.
