–Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Marlon Campbell, and I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland—where I still reside. My career has taken me through commercial retail banking, insurance, and commercial lending, and for the past twelve years I’ve been dedicated to the credit union movement, particularly in mortgage servicing and default management.

Today, I’m proud to work for Tower Federal Credit Union, a member-owned cooperative with over 70 years of service, more than $5 billion in assets, and 220,000 members worldwide. It’s a great place to work. Forbes consistently ranks Tower a Best-In-State credit union, and our TowerCares Foundation supports children in need as well as military and civilian service personnel.

Outside of work, I enjoy playing basketball, attending sporting events, exploring car shows, reading, and listening to music of all genres.

–How did you learn about the MBA Path to Opportunity Program?

I first learned about the MBA Path to Opportunity Program by asking MBA’s Teresa Ferman several questions and studying the MBA website. When I found [MBA Vice President of Opportunity & Engagement] Amber Lawrence’s contact information, I reached out—and that call opened the door to a valuable opportunity.

–What inspired you to become more Involved? Did a coworker /supervisor/mentor encourage your participation?

I’ve always felt the need to continue learning and contributing more. Over the years, mentors have encouraged me to pursue further education and industry experience. In 2019, a manager introduced me to the MBA, though I didn’t fully understand the programs at the time. Years later at Tower, I spoke with a CMB who emphasized the importance of staying engaged in the mortgage industry. A coworker who had recently earned his AMP certification encouraged me to take action, and when I discussed the opportunity with my manager and VP, they offered full support—reflecting Tower’s commitment to employee development.

–Did you find the application process to be user-friendly?

The application process was straightforward and easy to navigate. Everything was clear, and I rarely needed clarification.

–How has the Path to Opportunity scholarship benefited you, personally and professionally?

The Path to Opportunity scholarship relieved the financial pressure of pursuing my AMP certification, allowing me to focus fully on learning. It also gave me access to an incredible professional network and strengthened my skills through the School of Mortgage Banking.

–What have you been able to bring back to your company as a result of the Path to Opportunity Program?

I’ve brought back a deeper understanding of the mortgage industry and a renewed commitment to continually investing in job knowledge. The program expanded my professional network and equipped me with skills that I now apply directly at Tower, helping me contribute more to our mission of supporting members with expertise and care.

Any advice for someone else who is considering applying for a Path to Opportunity scholarship?

This scholarship is a powerful opportunity—just trust the process. Make sure to have conversations about what you want to learn and where you want your career to go. Explore the designation tracks and consider how this education can help you contribute to your organization, the mortgage industry, and your long-term goals.
