The Mortgage Bankers Association Aug. 11 sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development providing comments on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on revising construction standards for manufactured homes.

The letter supports the proposal to modernize the HUD Code by eliminating the permanent chassis requirement for upper-floor sections of multi-story manufactured homes, which can reduce unnecessary regulatory costs, encourage innovation, expand affordable housing supply and create additional opportunities for manufactured housing and mortgage financing.

MBA also recommends that HUD finalizes the proposal soon and provides a series of other related recommendations.

“MBA looks forward to continuing to work with HUD and its federal housing partners to modernize the manufactured housing regulatory framework, swiftly implement the relevant provisions of ROAD, and ensure that regulatory modernization is accompanied by financing, appraisal and secondary-market policies that enable consumers to benefit from these reforms fully,” the letter reads.
