LAS VEGAS–The Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) Society today presented Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) President and CEO Robert (Bob) Broeksmit, CMB, with its E. Michael Rosser, CMB, MBA Education Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented here at MBA’s 2025 Annual Convention & Expo.

“Today, we honor Bob not only for his leadership, but for his lifelong dedication to the CMB designation, the mortgage industry, and his principled stewardship of MBA,” said Bob Niemi, 2024/2025 CMB Society Chair. “He has inspired a new generation of professionals to pursue excellence, and his commitment to education and integrity embodies the very spirit of Michael Rosser, who championed higher standards across our profession. Few represent these ideals more completely than Bob.”

As MBA’s President and CEO, Broeksmit has strengthened the association’s standing as a respected and influential voice in Washington. Under his leadership, policymakers and regulators have gained a deeper understanding of the essential role housing finance plays in the lives of millions of Americans. His steady and strategic guidance was particularly impactful during the COVID-19 pandemic, when MBA was instrumental in shaping the CARES Act and ensuring the continued stability of the mortgage industry during an era of extraordinary uncertainty. Under his leadership, MBA has led the industry in getting monumental legislation passed on critical industry issues in recent years, including tax, trigger leads, loss mitigation, and much more.

Since joining MBA in 2018, Broeksmit has drawn on deep expertise across the full spectrum of mortgage operations. Prior to MBA, he served as President and COO of Treliant, leading its mortgage litigation support and advisory practice for major financial institutions. Earlier in his career, Broeksmit held senior executive roles at Chevy Chase Bank (later Capital One), where he was EVP and President of B.F. Saul Mortgage Company, as well as at Prudential Home Mortgage. He has overseen multi-billion-dollar origination, servicing, and balance sheet operations and testified as an expert in high-profile mortgage litigation. A Yale graduate, Broeksmit has also chaired MBA’s Residential Board of Governors and served on its Board of Directors, with firms under his leadership earning top industry servicing awards.

The E. Michael Rosser MBA Education Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has shown outstanding service to the Association, Certified Mortgage Bankers Society, and the real estate finance industry.
