MISMO Creates Standard for Electronic HELOCs

MISMO, the real estate finance industry’s standards organization, announced that it is seeking public comment on the SMART Doc V3 eHELOC Specification. This standard was developed to meet requests for natively created electronic documents to support the growth of home equity lines of credit (HELOCs). The use of the MISMO SMART Doc provides assurance that loan documents and associated data are consistent, reliable, and unaltered. The 30-day public comment period runs through July 5, 2025.

“The new Doc® V3 eHELOC Specification will help lenders and investors that are interested in gaining efficiencies and trust while originating, buying, and servicing HELOCs,” said MISMO Acting President Richard Hill. “The specification applies SMART Doc V3 Verifiable Profile functionality to the HELOC agreement, further enabling the seamless exchange of HELOC data and documents between trading partners.”

The SMART Doc V3 Verifiable Profile allows document data to travel with the PDF and then be automatically verified with the document image.

The public comment period allows at least 30 days’ notice prior to final release to review and disclose any applicable Patent Rights (as defined by MISMO’s 2018 Intellectual Property Rights Policy).

MISMO requests that any organization that may have any patent or patent applications, or other intellectual property rights that might be infringed upon by an organization that uses or is compliant with these proposed MISMO products to disclose them at this time in writing. All comments and disclosures are due by July 5, 2025, and should be directed to info@mismo.org.
