Lisa Brozenic

Back in ’98, my mom somehow convinced me to join the mortgage industry. She had been crushing it in that world for a decade, and I guess she thought it was time for me to join the “big kid” job club. Turns out, you can learn a ton when your mom casually takes loan applications over the phone during dinner. Within weeks, I was speaking mortgage lingo like a pro. My boss took a chance on me, and over the next 14 years, I learned the ins and outs of the mortgage game. I learned it all – loan closer, processor, and eventually, I teamed up with my mom as an originator. Let me tell you, when your mom’s your boss, the fear of getting in trouble for slacking off really lights a fire under you!

After a decade of dominating the mortgage world with my mom, I took a leap of faith and switched gears to become a Mutual Fund Wholesaler. It was a blast calling on financial advisors and sharing my passion for using homeownership to build personal wealth. But, as fate would have it, I was drawn back to the mortgage industry in 2017. It’s like it’s in my DNA or something! Now, I’m an MGIC Account Manager, putting my years of experience to good use in Kansas City, MO, Kansas, and Arkansas. It has been the perfect next chapter for me.

When I’m not uber focused on growing my business in my current role, you can find me running for good old-fashioned cardio or chilling by the pool with my family and friends. I’m a huge animal lover and look forward to spending my golden years helping furry friends. Oh, and I’m a die-hard Chiefs and Royals fan – so it’s very common to catch me watching the Chiefs with my husband, kids, and two dogs. Cheers to a perfect day!

–How did you learn about the MBA Path to Diversity?

I first heard about the Path to Diversity scholarship from a colleague who had also received it. Thanks to this opportunity, she was able to complete courses all the way up to her CMB designation. I had considered taking MBA courses, but with many companies trying to cut costs, I was worried about adding the expense to my already tight budget. However, after learning more about this opportunity, it was an obvious decision to at least try to win the scholarship.

–Did you find the application process to be user-friendly?

I discovered the process to be quite manageable. It was essential for me to portray myself and MGIC in the best possible light (obviously!), so I invested some time in gathering and preparing the required documentation. Once everything was in place, the process flowed effortlessly. The instructions were straightforward and easy to follow, and the communication with the MBA was seamless.

–How has the Path to Diversity scholarship benefited you, both personally and professionally?

Path to Diversity presents an exceptional opportunity for qualified individuals. In 2024, we are navigating a highly dynamic mortgage environment. This scholarship delivers essential financial assistance precisely when it’s most impactful. Personally, it has empowered me to actively participate in thought-provoking discussions during my daily interactions with all stakeholders in the mortgage journey.

–What were you able to bring back to your company as a result of the Path to Diversity program?

Guess what? I’ve already finished SOMB I, and I’m so pumped because I know this one course is going to make me an even bigger asset to my employer and the whole industry. Knowledge and education are absolute game-changers, especially for us women in the workforce. I’ve been rocking the mortgage industry since 1998, and let me tell you, I picked up more in just one week of classes than I did in over 20 years on the job!

–What would I say to someone considering applying for a Path to Diversity scholarship?

“Take action. Don’t overthink it. Just take action.”
