DENVER–MBA Education, the award-winning division of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), today awarded the United Services Automobile Association (USAA) with its Residential Educator of the Year Award here at MBA’s 2024 Annual Convention & Expo

“USAA’s dedicated approach to education and professional development has distinguished them as a beacon of inspiration within the mortgage industry,” said Laura Escobar, 2025 MBA Chair and President of Lennar Mortgage. “Their accomplishments demonstrate an unwavering dedication to fostering a learning-centric culture through extensive training initiatives, leadership development programs, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. I am honored to recognize them with this award.”

USAA was founded in 1922 to provide insurance and banking products to military personnel, veterans, and their families. Today, USAA has taken on a holistic approach to learning and development by offering their employees a wide range of initiatives. Every USAA employee is allotted 32 development hours annually, and these hours are applicable to conferences, webinars, mentorship, certification programs and more. USAA also offers tuition reimbursement and support programs, providing employees up to $10,000 towards professional certifications and advanced degrees. In addition to the optional opportunities, USAA requires employees to complete quarterly training courses to ensure a safe and inclusive workplace.

USAA’s mortgage department continues to go above and beyond to support numerous MBA designations and certifications. Since its inception in 2020, the USAA MBA Designation Program has had 42 employees earn their Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) designation. In 2024, USAA expanded its program to include the MBA Future Leaders Program (FLP) and the esteemed Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation.

The Residential Educator the Year Award was founded in 2023 and recognizes an MBA member company that exemplifies a commitment to learning and development by acknowledging an organization’s dedication to improving the skills of professionals within the industry. The award focuses on three key areas: a culture of, and commitment to organizational learning, a focus on enhanced career development and growth through designations and certification programs and delivering innovative and holistic approaches to learning.

MBA Education’s Residential Education Networking Group, a member-driven effort to assemble thought leaders to discuss the latest innovations and best teaching practices across the mortgage banking industry, created the award to highlight the importance of investing in education and training.   For more information on MBA Education and to apply for the 2024 Residential Educator of the Year Award, click here.
