Home Improvement Lending Plunges to Decade Low

After surging during the pandemic, home improvement financing nose-dived 65 percent last year, leaving it at the lowest level in a decade. And the post-pandemic hangover doesn’t appear to be abating, with a decline in renovations expected this year.

As of the fourth-quarter 2023, there were 572,191 U.S. mortgage loan originators registered in the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System, according to a report released by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors. The originators worked at 32,909 licensed companies.
