MBA Reports. On Wednesday, Mar. 29, MBA releases its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey, with commentary and analysis from MBA Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist Joel Kan.

Congress. The House and Senate are in session this week; the Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee this week begin their examinations of recent banking turmoil that has brought down several major financial institutions.

On Tuesday, Mar. 28, the Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing on “Recent Bank Failures and the Federal Regulatory Response.”

Slated to testify: Martin Gruenberg, Chairman of Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.; Michael Barr, Vice Chairman for Supervision with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; and Nellie Liang, Undersecretary for Domestic Finance with the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in Dirksen Senate Office Building room 106 and can be accessed online here.

The witnesses head over to the House side on Wednesday, Mar. 29, when the House Financial Services Committee holds a hearing, “The Federal Regulators’ Response to Recent Bank Failures.” The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in 2128 Rayburn House Office Building and can be accessed online here.
