Important First Steps if You Have Been Affected
Call your mortgage servicer, which is the company you make your monthly mortgage payment to. These companies have plans and programs to help you through this difficult time, but they need to hear from you.
Call your homeowners insurance company and, if you have it, your flood insurance company. It’s important to get the ball rolling with them immediately. Apply for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). They have a number of resources to help. Call (800) 621-3362 or visit www.disasterassistance.gov.
