Mortgage Refinancing Surges Nearly 20% as Rates Drop to Five-Month Low

The numbers: Demand for mortgages rose this week as mortgage rates fell to the lowest level since July. Rates dropped 10 basis points in the last week, and the 30-year rate is 54 basis points lower than a month ago, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported.
