The Week Ahead, Apr 24, 2023: End-of-Month Housing Reports

Good morning and happy Monday! Here’s what’s happening this week:

MBA Reports. On Wednesday, Apr. 26,MBA releases its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey, with MBA Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist Joel Kan providing commentary and analysis.

On Thursday, Apr. 27, MBA releases its monthly Purchase Applications Payment Index, with commentary and analysis from MBA Associate Vice President of Housing Economics Edward Seiler

Congress. The House and Senate are in session this week.

The Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing on Wednesday, Apr. 26, Building Consensus to Address Housing Challenges. Slated to testify: Lou Tisler, Executive Director of the National NeighborWorks Association; Vanessa Brown Calder, Director of Opportunity and Family Policy Studies with the Cato Institute; and Diane Yentel, President and CEO of National Low Income Housing Coalition.

The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in  Dirksen Senate Office Building 538 and can be accessed online here.

On Thursday, Apr. 27, the Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing, Oversight of the Credit Reporting Agencies. Witnesses include Mark W. Begor, CEO of Equifax Inc.; Chris A. Cartwright, President and CEO of TransUnion; and Brian Cassin, CEO of Experian. The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in 538 Dirksen and can be accessed online here.

The House Financial Services subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions holds a hearing on Thursday, Apr. 27 on Oversight of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence (TFI). The hearing begins at 2:00 p.m. ET in 2220 Rayburn House Office Building and can be accessed online here.

Also on Thursday, Apr. 27, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion holds a hearing, The Future of Digital Assets: Identifying the Regulatory Gaps in Digital Asset Market Structure. That hearing also begins at 2:00 p.m. ET in 2128 Rayburn and can be accessed online here.
