MBA Opens Doors Foundation Raises Nearly $184,000 During September Fundraisers
The MBA Opens Doors Foundation raised nearly $184,000 at two successful September fundraisers.
On September 19, the “DUS® Has Soul Fundraiser,” held as part of the Fannie Mae 2022 DUS (Delegated Underwriting and Servicing) conference, brought in $170,000 in donations for Opens Doors, which had been chosen as the charitable partner this year. Of that total, $50,000 was raised onsite from a group of 23 DUS lenders. The event took place in Chicago and was sponsored by the DUS Advisory Council.
“The theme of the conference was ‘The DUS Effect,’ which is all about illustrating the impact we have on markets and in communities across the country,” said Pattie Farrell, Managing Director of Wells Fargo Multifamily Capital, and DUS Advisory Council Vice Chair. “The money raised was another testament to what Fannie Mae Multifamily and the DUS Lenders can accomplish when we work together. We are thrilled about the funds raised and our industry’s commitment to house families, especially during tough times.”
Nearly $14,000 in donations was also raised at the “MMM Cheers” event held by Washington, D.C., law firm Morris, Manning & Martin, which also selected Opens Doors as its charitable partner for its fall fundraising event. The D.C.-based annual event seeks to raise visibility and funds for local non-profits making an impact in the community.
“We were delighted to have the MBA Opens Doors Foundation as our charitable partner at this year’s MMM Cheers event,” said Bonnie Hochman Rothell, Partner with Morris, Manning & Martin. “The Foundation’s mission aligns well with Morris, Manning & Martin’s commitment to helping families in our communities thrive, especially under challenging circumstances. We look forward to working together in the future.”
The proceeds from both events will support the Foundation’s mission of helping vulnerable families with critically ill or injured children stay in their homes while their child is in treatment.
“In FY 2022, the Foundation helped more than 3,000 families with a critically ill or injured child stay in their home while their child was in treatment,” said Deborah E. Dubois, President of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation. “Events like these play a crucial role in raising the funds needed to sustain that effort and to build awareness for the work we do to help families in need. To say we are grateful for their support is an understatement.”
The MBA Opens Doors Foundation, through its Home Grant Program, provides relief in a time of personal crisis. The Home Grant Program is a critical part of a family’s support structure, especially when a parent or guardian must take unpaid leave to be with a child. Grants of up to $2,500 are made monthly to families in need of mortgage or rental payment assistance. The Foundation has provided more than $17 million in mortgage and rental payment assistance to more than 10,000 families since its inception in 2011.
