The Week Ahead, Nov. 21, 2022: Busy Week Ahead of Thanksgiving

Good morning, and happy Monday! It’s a short week—but a busy one, with lots happening before the Thanksgiving holidays.

On that note, Mortgage Bankers Association offices will be closed this Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25 for the Thanksgiving holidays. MBA NewsLink will not publish on Thursday or Friday; and MBA Commercial/Multifamily NewsLink will not publish this Thursday. On behalf of MBA officers and staff, have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

Until then, there’s a lot happening; let’s get started:

First MBA Reports, The Mortgage Bankers Association releases its monthly Loan Monitoring Survey (formerly the MBA Forbearance and Call Center Survey) today (Monday) at 4:00 p.m. ET.

MBA Vice President of Industry Analysis Marina Walsh, CMB, will provide commentary and analysis in the Tuesday, Nov. 22 edition of MBA NewsLink.

On Wednesday, Nov. 23, MBA releases its MBA Weekly Applications Survey, with commentary and analysis from MBA Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist Joel Kan.

Second, Other Economic Reports. Housing reports continue this week; here is a list of reports; those that MBA NewsLink will cover are in italics:

–Monday: MBA Loan Monitoring Survey; Chicago Fed National Activity Index

–Tuesday: Philadelphia Fed Non-Manufacturing Survey; Richmond Fed Survey of Manufacturing Activity

Wednesday: MBA Weekly Applications Survey; New Residential Sales; Initial Claims; Advance Durable Goods; University of Michigan Consumer Survey

–Thursday: (No reports; Thanksgiving holiday)

Friday: (No reports; Thanksgiving holiday)

Third, Congress. We have a pretty good idea of how elections have played out—the Senate remains in Democratic control; Republicans have wrested control (barely) of the House.

Congress is out this week; but returns after the holidays for a crucial lame-duck session in which it must approve—or punt until next year—bills to fund the federal government for fiscal year 2023.

Neither the Senate Banking Committee nor the House Financial Services Committee has hearings scheduled this week.
