The Week Ahead, May 23, 2022: MBA Legal Issues Conference and 5 Other Things to Know
Good morning and happy Monday! We have one more week until the Memorial Day holiday, but there’s plenty going on ahead of it. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening this week:
First, the MBA Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Conference is underway, taking place through Wednesday, May 25 at the Intercontinental Miami.

This conference continues to be the source for the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on regulatory initiatives, recent litigation, current and upcoming legislation, and enforcement activity impacting the single-family market. Second, Memorial Day, next Monday, May 30. MBA offices will be closed that day, and MBA NewsLink will not publish. On behalf of MBA officers and staff, have a safe and happy holiday.
Third, MBA Reports. On Wednesday, May 25, the MBA Weekly Applications Survey comes out (7:00 a.m. ET) with commentary and analysis from MBA Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting Joel Kan.

Fifth, Congress. The House and Senate are in session, but planning to bug out by week’s end for the Memorial Day holiday.
The House Financial Services Committee has a busy week. On Tuesday, May 24, the Financial Services Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion holds a hearing, Diversity Includes Disability: Exploring Inequities in Financial Services for Persons with Disabilities, Including Those Newly Disabled Due to Long-Term COVID. The hearing begins at noon ET in 2128 Rayburn House Office Building and can be accessed online here.
On Wednesday, May 25, the Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance will hold a hearing on “Reauthorization and Reform of the National Flood Insurance Program.” The hearing begins at noon ET in 2128 Rayburn and can be accessed online here.
On Thursday, May 26, the Financial Services Committee holds a Virtual hearing on Digital Assets and the Future of Finance: Examining the Benefits and Risks of a U.S. Central Bank Digital Currency. The hearing begins at noon ET and can be accessed online here.
On the Senate side, the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation and Community Development holds a hearing on Wednesday, May 25, Examining the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Housing Service.
Slated to testify: Xochitl Torres Small, Under Secretary for Rural Development with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The hearing begins at 2:30 p.m. ET in Dirksen Senate Office Building room 538 and can be viewed online here.
