The Week Ahead, Jan. 31, 2022: Countdown to CREF22 and 3 Other Things to Know

Good morning and happy almost February! We’re back from a highly engaging MBA Independent Mortgage Bankers Conference last week in Nashville (see our continuing coverage in today’s MBA NewsLink) and are preparing for the next big MBA event: CREF22, taking place Feb. 13-16 in San Diego. More about that and three other things to know this week:

First, CREF 22. The MBA Commercial Real Estate Finance/Multifamily Housing Convention & Expo is less than wo weeks away, taking place Feb. 13-16 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.

Join us in person again at the largest commercial/multifamily industry event of the year. Sunny San Diego presents endless opportunities to network and secure deals for the coming year and beyond.

Keynote speakers include Academy Award-winning actress, dancer and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Rita Moreno; singer-songwriter and founder of Five for Fighting John Ondrasik (“Superman,” “100 Years,” “The Riddle“); MBA Chair Kristy Fercho and MBA President & CEO Robert Broeksmit, CMB.

Second, MBA and Housing/Economic Reports. MBA releases its Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey this Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 7:00 a.m. ET; MBA Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting Joel Kan will provide analysis and commentary.

It’s the first week of the month, and that means the focus is on jobs and employment. Four big jobs reports come out this week: JOLTS (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey) on Tuesday, Feb. 1; the ADP National Employment report on Wednesday, Feb. 2; Initial Claims on Thursday, Feb. 3; and the Labor Department’s Employment Report on Friday, Feb. 4.

We’ll have commentary and analysis on the latter from MBA Chief Economist Mike Fratantoni and other economists in the Monday, Feb. 7 edition of MBA NewsLink.

Here are this week’s scheduled housing/economic reports. MBA NewsLink will provide coverage of those marked in italics):

Tuesday: CoreLogic Home Price Index; Construction; ISM Manufacturing; JOLTS; Dallas Fed Texas Retail Outlook Survey

Wednesday: MBA Weekly Applications Survey; ADP National Employment Report

Thursday: Initial Claims; Productivity & Costs (Preliminary); ISM Non-Manufacturing; Manufacturing, Shipments and Orders

(10:00)

Friday: Employment Situation
