The Week Ahead, Dec. 19, 2022: Winding Down 2022

Good morning, and happy Monday! Welcome to the final business week of 2022. Let’s get started:

First, the Holiday Schedule: MBA offices will close on Friday, Dec. 23 at 5:00 p.m. ET and will remain closed throughout the holidays, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.

MBA NewsLink will not publish from Monday, Dec. 26 through Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, returning on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. MBA Servicing NewsLink will not publish on Tuesday, Dec. 27; MBA Commercial Multifamily NewsLink will not publish on Thursday, Dec. 29.

Second, MBA Reports. MBA is closing out 2022 with a bang, issuing four major reports this week.

Today (Monday), MBA releases its monthly Loan Monitoring Survey at 4:00 p.m. ET, with commentary from MBA Vice President of Industry Analysis Marina Walsh.

On Tuesday, MBA releases its monthly Builder Applications Survey, with commentary and analysis from MBA Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist Joel Kan.

On Wednesday, MBA issues its final Weekly Applications Survey of the year, with Kan providing commentary and analysis.

And on Thursday, MBA releases its monthly Purchase Applications Payment Index, with commentary and analysis from MBA Associate Vice President of Housing Economics Edward Seiler.

Third, Other Economic Reports. The week before the holidays is chock full of housing and economic reports. Here’s this week’s reports; those MBA NewsLink will cover are in italics:

Monday: MBA Loan Monitoring Survey; National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index

Fourth, Congress. The 117th Congress is scheduled to adjourn Dec. 22, but there’s still work to do. The House and Senate passed a continuing resolution allowing the government to remain open through this week, but time is running out on a larger, full fiscal year 2023. Outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she is hopeful of reaching an agreement before Christmas.
