The Week Ahead Sept. 13, 2021: Five Things to Watch

Good morning! Welcome to another busy week for the real estate finance industry. Here are Five things to watch for this week:

First, MBA Conferences are Back! The Mortgage Bankers Association’s fall conference schedule is underway—and for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, they are once again live and in person.

The MBA Regulatory Compliance Conference is currently underway here in Washington, running through Tuesday, Sept. 14. MBA President and CEO Robert Broeksmit, CMB, will deliver a keynote address this morning, which we will cover in the Tuesday, Sept. 14 edition of MBA NewsLink.

Second, Congress. The House and Senate continue work this week on a number of outstanding issues, such as the massive Biden Administration-supported infrastructure bill and budget/spending bills for fiscal 2022. The bills are now in the vote-counting stage, as leaders in both parties and in both chambers “whip” fellow legislators into support—or compromise.

The Senate Banking Committee welcomes Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler this Tuesday, Sept. 14 for a hearing, “Oversight of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.” The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET in 538 Dirksen Senate Office Building and can be accessed online here.

The House Financial Services Committee does not have hearings scheduled this week but has a full slate of hearing on tap beginning Sept. 21. For more information, click here.

Looking ahead, the Federal Open Market Committee will hold its regularly scheduled policy meeting on Sept. 21-22.
