The Week Ahead Nov. 22, 2021: Four Things to Know

Good morning, and Happy Thanksgiving Week. Here are four things to look out for during this abbreviated week:

First, Thanksgiving. MBA offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 and Friday, Nov. 26 in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays.

MBA NewsLink will not publish on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26. MBA Commercial/Multifamily NewsLink will not publish on Nov. 25 MBA NewsLink will resume publishing on Monday, Nov. 29; MBA Commercial/Multifamily NewsLink will return on Thursday, Dec. 2.

On behalf of MBA Chair Kristy Fercho; MBA Vice Chair Matt Rocco; MBA Vice Chair-Elect Mark Jones; and MBA staff, have a safe holiday season.

Second, Congress. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., surely must be feeling like they’ve earned their paychecks as of late—first with passage of President Biden’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure package earlier this month, and second, with the House on Friday pushing through the Build Back Better Act, which would create a universal pre-K program, extend the enhanced child tax credit and expand access to health care, affordable housing and home care for seniors.

The Senate still has to approve the bill—and it can’t do so without support from Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; and Krysten Sinema, D-Ariz., who continue to voice objections to certain provisions. This week should be interesting—stay tuned.

And after the Thanksgiving holidays, Congress still has to contend with its fiscal 2022 budget package. The government remains funded through Dec. 9, a deadline that is approaching with light-speed.
