The Week Ahead—Jan. 19, 2021
Good morning! It’s already Tuesday.
Following another…um, “interesting” weekend here in Washington, we move forward with another extraordinary week. On Wednesday, Jan. 20, Joseph Biden Jr. will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States and Kamala Harris as Vice President before what should be the smallest inauguration crowd, for safety and security purposes, in more than 200 years.
And if Inauguration Day isn’t enough (by the way, MBA offices will be open that day), Wednesday could also mark the first day in the Senate of the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Stay tuned.
Also this week, President Biden is expected to formally introduce a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package. For an MBA summary of the bill, click here.
And Biden’s nominee for Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, appears before the Senate Finance Committee. The confirmation hearing takes place this morning at 10:00 a.m. ET in 106 Dirksen Senate Office Building and can be accessed online here.
MBA releases its weekly Forbearance and Call Volume Survey today (Jan. 19) at 4:00 p.m. ET.; the MLK holiday delayed release by one day. On Wed. Jan. 20, MBA releases its Weekly Applications Survey.
Here this week’s economic events/reports of interest:
