Welcome to the first week of May—already!

The Mortgage Bankers Association’s National Advocacy Conference is a little more than a week away. Offered through MBA LIVE, this is the largest advocacy event of the year focused solely on the issues facing you and the real estate finance industry. The virtual format gives you access to a range of information and priorities, and will facilitate MBA members and lawmakers conversing “face-to-face” online from your home or office.

On Capitol Hill this week, a reversal—the Senate is in recess this week, while the House returns to session.

The House Financial Services Committee holds several hearings this week. On Tuesday, May 4, the Subcommittee on Housing Community Development and Insurance holds a virtual hearing, “Built to Last: Examining Housing Resilience in the Face of Climate Change.” The hearing begins at noon ET and can be accessed online here.  

On Friday, May 7, The Task Force on Artificial Intelligence holds a hearing, “Equitable Algorithms: How Human-Centered AI Can Address Systemic Racism and Racial Justice in Housing and Financial Services.” The virtual hearing begins at noon ET and can be accessed online here.

Snapdocs Fireside Chat with MBA’s Mike Fratantoni May 10

On May 10, MBA Chief Economist Mike Fratantoni will join Aaron King, Founder and CEO of Snapdocs, for a Fireside Chat at 2:00 p.m. ET.

As mortgage lenders move on from an unprecedented year, many are asking “what’s next?” Join King and Fratantoni as they discuss how factors such as the state of the economy, the Federal Reserve’s policies, the housing supply and demographics driving purchase demand might impact lenders’ profitability over the next year.
