MBA this week releases its weekly Forbearance & Call Volume Survey this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. ET; its Weekly Applications Survey on Wednesday, Apr. 14 (7:00 a.m. ET); and its monthly Builder Applications Survey on Thursday, Apr. 15.

Congress returns to Washington this week after an extended recess. Both the Senate Banking Committee and House Financial Services Committee kick back into gear with a slate of hearings this week.

On Tuesday, Apr. 13, the Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing on “Separate and Unequal: The Legacy of Racial Discrimination in Housing.” Witnesses include Sherrilyn Ifill, President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund; Lisa Rice, President and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance; Jason Reece, Assistant Professor of City and Regional Planning with the Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University; Howard Husock of the American Enterprise Institute; and Tobias Peter, Research Fellow and Director of Research of the American Enterprise Institute Housing Center.

Also on Apr. 13, the Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy will hold a remote hearing on “The Student Debt Burden and Its Impact on Racial Justice, Borrowers & The Economy.” Slated to testify: Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.; Maura Healey, Attorney General of the State of Massachusetts; James H. Steeley, President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency; and John F. Remondi, President and CEO of Navient. The hearing begins at 2:30 p.m. ET and can be accessed online here.

On the other side of the Capitol Building, the House Financial Services Committee holds a hearing on Wednesday, Apr. 14 on “Building Back Better: Examining the Need for Investments in America’s Housing and Financial Infrastructure.” The remote hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET and can be accessed online here.

On Thursday, Apr. 15, the Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions holds a hearing on “Banking Innovation or Regulatory Evasion? Exploring Trends in Financial Institution Charters.” The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET and can be accessed online here.

Also on Apr. 15, the Financial Services Subcommittee on Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship and Capital Markets holds a hearing on “The End of LIBOR: Transitioning to an Alternative Interest Rate Calculation for Mortgages, Student Loans, Business Borrowing and Other Financial Products.” The remote hearing begins at noon ET and can be accessed online here.

Looking ahead, the Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on Tuesday, Apr. 20 to mark up pending legislation. The hearing begins at 10:00 a.m. ET and can be accessed online here.
