MBA Honors Leslie G. Baird with 2020 Ken Markison Legacy Achievement Award

The Mortgage Bankers Association presented its annual Ken Markison Legacy Achievement Award to Leslie G. Baird of Wright, Finlay & Zak LLP.

Leslie G. Baird

The award, presented to Baird this week at the MBA virtual Regulatory Compliance Conference, recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in pursuit of the Certified Mortgage Compliance Professional (CMCP) certificate and designation program.

“Leslie’s achievements and dedication to furthering her career as a compliance professional are remarkable, and I am honored to present her with this year’s Ken Markison Legacy Achievement Award,” said Bob Broeksmit, CMB, MBA President and CEO. “MBA’s Mortgage Compliance certificate and designation program gives professionals advanced knowledge of the laws and regulations in mortgage lending. Leslie’s results in the CMCP Level I courses were impressive, and she has shown a true commitment to excellence in the industry’s regulatory compliance field.”

Baird completed all Level I requisite courses and was one of two people who scored 95 percent on the comprehensive Level I examination – the highest score to date in 2020. As an Associate in the Compliance Division at Wright, Finlay & Zak, her responsibilities include state and federal regulatory and compliance matters related to mortgage originations. Baird earned her J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.

The Ken Markison Legacy Achievement Award was established in the name of Ken Markison, following his retirement from MBA in 2017. While at MBA, Markison was the vanguard of educating members and the principle architect behind MBA’s Compliance Essentials program. He is also nationally recognized as a leading expert in government housing regulations and led the efforts for industry input on “Know Before You Owe” or TRID, the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), loan officer compensation matters and countless other regulations.
