MBA Opens Doors Foundation Receives $100,000 from AmeriHome Mortgage Company
The MBA Opens Doors Foundation announced it received a $100,000 donation from AmeriHome Mortgage Company, Thousand Oaks, Calif.
With this gift, Opens Doors will further deliver on its mission of providing mortgage and rental assistance to families with critically ill or injured children, allowing parents and guardians to be by a child’s side during treatment without fear of losing their home.
AmeriHome’s contribution comes at a critical time. Many Opens Doors families have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 26% of families receiving assistance from Opens Doors since March have experienced financial distress as a result of the pandemic, with nearly half of those families losing at least one job during that time.
“AmeriHome’s generous contribution will help more than 85 families stay in their homes while they grapple not just with a pandemic, but with the extraordinary needs of a sick child,” said Debra W. Still, CMB, President and CEO of Pulte Mortgage, and Opens Doors Foundation Chairman. “Thank you Chief Operating Officer John Hedlund and the AmeriHome team for being a champion for families in need of housing assistance.”
“AmeriHome has always been about empowering people and communities. Our support of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation is emblematic of our values and our vision,” said John Hedlund, Chief Operating Officer of AmeriHome Mortgage. “We are humbled to be a partner in Opens Doors’ mission to lift up families with sick kids and provide relief during an unimaginably difficult time.”
Since 2012, Opens Doors has helped families in 49 states and the District of Columbia, granting more than $7 million in housing assistance to more than 5,500 families with critically ill or injured children to help them stay in their homes while their child was in treatment.
“The $100,000 gift from AmeriHome speaks volumes to the great work they do for our industry and for Opens Doors,” said MBA Opens Doors Foundation President Deborah Dubois. “Families dealing with the extraordinary financial pressure that comes with having a sick child are also struggling under the weight of a global pandemic that has altered their ability to support their families. With AmeriHome’s help, Opens Doors is poised to help so many more struggling families across the country.”
The Opens Doors Foundation, through its Home Grant Program, provides relief in a time of personal crisis. The Home Grant Program has become a critical part of a family’s support structure, especially when a parent or guardian must take unpaid leave to be with a child. Grants of up to $2,500 are made monthly to families in need of mortgage or rental payment assistance.
