MBA Annual Convention 2019 Begins this Weekend

The real estate finance industry’s largest gathering begins this weekend in Austin, Texas. The Mortgage Bankers Association’s Annual Convention & Expo takes place Oct. 27-30 at the Austin Convention Center.

More than 4,000 real estate finance industry professionals are expected as MBA holds its first Annual Convention in the Texas state capital. More than 500 member companies are expected as well, with more than 100 speakers and dozens of general sessions and breakout sessions.

Here’s a brief look at what’s happening:

Saturday, Oct. 26

mPowering You, MBA’s Summit for Women in Real Estate Finance (all day, separate registration): mPowering You is an all-day event purposefully dedicated creating opportunities to expand your network, celebrate your wins and reach your potential.

Keynote speakers include entrepreneur Dia Simms; author Brad Meltzer; MSNBC Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski; and leadership coach Meg Myers, along with mPower Founder and MBA COO Marcia Davies.

Sunday, Oct. 27

Annual 19 formally kicks off on Sunday. Following morning committee meetings, the Convention features a Special Session: Resilience and Reward: The Making of a World Cup Champion, featuring U.S. Women’s National Team Captain Carli Lloyd, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. CT.

At 5:00 p.m. CT, the MBA Opening Ceremony: Installation of 2020 Officers, Graduation Ceremonies for CMBs and Future Leaders takes place, followed by the Opening Reception in THE HUB from 6:00-7:30 p.m. CT.

Monday, Oct. 28

The Opening General Session (8:00-10:30 a.m. CT) features keynote addresses from MBA President & CEO Robert Broeksmit, CMB; incoming MBA Chairman Brian Stoffers, CMB; outgoing MBA Chairman Chris George, and Admiral William H. McRaven, USN (Ret.); and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.

The Second General Session (11:00 a.m. ET), the View from Washington, features keynote addresses from HUD Secretary Benjamin Carson and Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Mark Calabria.

The Third General Session (11:45 a.m. CT), An Era of New Leadership for the GSEs, features a discussion with David Brickman, CEO of Freddie Mac; Hugh R. Frater, CEO of Fannie Mae; and Kurt Pfotenhauer, Vice Chairman of First American Financial Corp.

At 12:30 p.m. CT, mPact, MBA’s organization for mortgage professionals 35 and under, holds a Millennials in Mortgage: Roundtable Discussion.

At 1:30 p.m. CT, the following Breakout Sessions take place:

The Fifth General Session, Ransomware and Other Security Threats in Your Backyard (10:15 a.m. ET) features Holly Easter Kelley, Supervisory Special Agent with Federal Bureau of Investigations; Debra W. Still, CMB, 2013 MBA Chairman and President and CEO of Pulte Mortgage LLC, and Chairman of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation; Andrew Ward, Chairman of CyFIR; Scott Riddick, Senior Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service; and John-Thomas Gaietto, Executive Director of Cybersecurity Services with Richey May Technology Solutions.
