ATTOM: November Foreclosure Activity Down 10% from October, 6% from Year Ago
ATTOM Data Solutions, Irvine, Calif., reported U.S. foreclosure activity fell by 10 percent in November from October and by 6 percent from a year ago.
ATTOM reported 49,898 U.S. properties with foreclosure filings in November. Nationally, one in every 2,713 properties had a foreclosure filing in November. The report said lenders repossessed 13,996 U.S. properties in November, up 4 percent from the previous month and up 22 percent from a year ago.
The report said lenders started the foreclosure process for the first time on 24,966 property owners in November, down 13 percent from the previous month and down 11 percent from a year ago.
States with the highest foreclosure rates in November were Delaware (one in every 1,112 housing units); New Jersey (one in every 1,278); Maryland (one in every 1,476); Illinois (one in every 1,535); and Florida (one in every 1,607).
Among 220 metropolitan statistical areas with at least 200,000 people, those with the highest foreclosure rates in November were Buffalo, N.Y. (one in every 798 housing units); Atlantic City, N.J. (one in every 968); Columbia, S.C. (one in every 1,082); and Fayetteville, N.C. (one in every 1,134); and Trenton, N.J. (on in every 1,146).
