MBANow: MBA President & CEO Bob Broeksmit, CMB

The Mortgage Bankers Association’s latest MBANow video features MBA President and CEO Bob Broeksmit, CMB, who discusses his priorities and goals.

Broeksmit joined MBA Aug. 20 following a nearly year-long executive search following the retirement of David Stevens, CMB. He has more than 33 years of industry experience, most recently as President and COO or Treliant, and previously served MBA in numerous volunteer capacities, including as a member of the MBA Board of Directors and as Chairman of the MBA Residential Board of Governors.  

Broeksmit said he intends his MBA tenure to be member-focused. “The members set the priorities,” he said. “Then I am the advocate for the members.” But he said MBA will continue to lead on key issues, such as GSE reform and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau-driven issues such as loan officer compensation.   

Broeksmit said coming from a member background, he understands the importance of MBA membership. “I found that being a member of MBA allowed us, especially at Chevy Chase Bank and B.F. Saul Mortgage, to punch above our weight,” he said. “We got access to all the resources MBA had to offer, and networking with my peers around the country really [impacted] how we were able to perform as a lender.”
