Former MBA Treasurer Alvin Siegal, CMB, Passes Away
Alvin A. Seigal, CMB, founder of The Leader Mortgage Co. in Cleveland who served as elected Treasurer of the Mortgage Bankers Association from 1990-1991, died Sept. 25. He was 95.
Mr. Siegal was born in Cleveland on Aug. 20, 1923. Upon graduation from John Adams High School he joined the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he returned to Cleveland and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Cleveland College of Case Western Reserve University. He and Carl Milstein established Alvin Homes, which developed numerous communities in Cleveland’s western suburbs.
In 1960, Mr. Siegal founded The Leader Mortgage Co. with three employees, growing it to more than 200 employees and offices throughout Ohio; at one point, it was the largest mortgage banking company in Ohio. Leader was acquired by US Bank, Minneapolis, in 2002.
Mr. Siegal also became active in banking advocacy, joining both the Ohio Mortgage Bankers Association and MBA. After serving a term as President of OMBA, Mr. Siegal was elected Treasurer (now Vice-Chairman) of MBA at its Annual Convention in Washington, D.C. in October 1989, and served in that capacity through 1991 while earning his Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation.
Mr. Siegal supported numerous philanthropic causes in the Cleveland area, including the Siegal College Foundation.
Mr. Siegal is survived by his wife, Laura; sons Michael Siegal and Kirk Schneider; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services took place last week. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program c/o Case Western Reserve University.
