MBA Swears In 2019 Officers

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Chris George, Founder, President and CEO of CMG Financial, San Ramon, Calif., was sworn in as Chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association here at the association’s Annual Convention & Expo.

Brian Stoffers, CMB, Global President of Debt & Structured Finance with CBRE, Houston; and Susan Stewart, CEO of SWBC Mortgage, San Antonio, Texas, were also sworn in as Chairman-Elect and Vice Chairman, respectively.

OfficersGeorge has served on the MBA Board of Directors since 2012, is a member of MBA’s Independent Mortgage Bankers Executive Council and MBA’s Consumer Affairs Advisory Council, as well as an active member of MBA’s advocacy efforts. Additionally, he is past Chairman of the California Mortgage Bankers Association, a major supporter of MBA’s Open Doors Foundation and has served on many advisory boards and task forces within the industry.

“It is a privilege to serve as MBA’s 2019 Chairman,” George said. “I am excited to work with both Brian and Susan on behalf of MBA. Together we will address the key priorities of its members, both residential and commercial/multifamily, through advocacy and outreach to policymakers and key stakeholders.”

Stoffers is Global President of Debt & Structured Finance with CBRE, where he oversees a practice that has nearly 140 professionals and has originated $216 billion in loan volume since 2007. He has extensive experience in origination, structuring, placement, closing and servicing of commercial real estate debt for life insurance companies, pension funds, banks, savings and loans, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, FHA and Wall Street sources.

In 2015, Stoffers received MBA’s Commercial/Multifamily Distinguished Service Award and has served on the Association’s Affordable Rental Housing Task Force, GSE Multifamily Task Force and Risk Retention Task Force. He been a major supporter of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation, which sponsors philanthropic activities focused on home and community support, and is an active supporter of the Mortgage Action Alliance.

Ms. Stewart joined SWBC in 1989 and serves as CEO of SWBC Mortgage Corp. Under her leadership, SWBC Mortgage has grown from three employees to 615 individuals operating in 39 states with annual sales of $3 billion and a servicing portfolio exceeding $10 billion.

Stewart currently serves on the MBA Board of Directors, sits on MBA’s Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG) and is on the board of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation. Both Stewart and SWBC Mortgage have been recognized as Guardian-level donors of ODF.
