mPower Moments: Susan T. Stewart of SWBC Mortgage Offers Leadership Tips

The Mortgage Bankers Association released a new mPower Moments video featuring Susan T. Stewart, CEO of SWBC Mortgage, San Antonio, Texas, who discusses leadership tips with MBA COO and mPower Founder Marcia M. Davies.

Stewart, who was nominated June 12 to serve as 2019 MBA Vice Chair, said she believes in empowering the people she works with. “I learned really young, as a very young manager, that you cannot do it on your own and that the smartest thing you can do is to surround yourself with smart people,” she said. “Let them do their jobs and stay out of their way.”  

Stewart noted the simple act of giving other people credit is an overlooked value. “The only long-lasting success you are going to have is if you care about the people you work with and get to know them,” she said. “You don’t have to be best friends with the people you manage, but you need to be a person they can come to; that they can be candid with; and that you can support. It’s not about you; it really about the team around you that makes something successful.”
