SOMB I: An Introduction to the Real Estate Finance Industry

School of Mortgage Banking I (SOMB I) is the introductory course that emphasizes interrelated roles of the departments within a residential mortgage banking firm and relationships of various institutions and agencies throughout the real estate finance industry. The course presents an overview of associated disciplines essential to a complete understanding of mortgage banking, including loss mitigation, predatory lending, capital markets, real estate law and regulation and real estate mathematics. At conclusion, attendees leave with a solid foundation, understanding the role and importance of the loan production, commercial lending, underwriting, secondary marketing, warehousing and servicing functions in the mortgage banking industry.

This course provides a foundation in residential loan production, underwriting, secondary marketing, warehousing and servicing. SOMB II: Managing Profitability and Risk

School of Mortgage Banking II, Managing Profitability and Risk in Mortgage Banking, emphasizes effective organization and management of production, servicing and secondary marketing departments for controlling risks and maximizing bottom-line profits. This course covers developing new markets, production management, servicing portfolio management and valuation, marketing risk management and pricing strategy.

Students who are not working toward AMP designations do not need to complete SOMB I to enroll in SOMB II. Only students who intend to acquire their AMP designation need to first complete SOMB I and pass the exam.

Both courses will be offered at law firm Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, One Federal Place, 1819 5th Avenue North Birmingham, AL 35203. Classes will meet from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. CT from Tuesday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. CT on Friday. A light breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. each day. Lunch will be served each day.
